Skye Riley: [Smiling to Entity] You’re not in control, I am!

Scenario

International pop sensation Skye Riley, embarking on a world tour, begins experiencing increasingly frightening and unexplained events. Overwhelmed by growing terrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her past. Kyle Gallner is the only actor so far to reprise his role from the first film. In one scene, Skye places a VOSS water bottle on the stone/marble counter in the kitchen and makes a noise similar to the sound of something plastic being set down. VOSS water bottles are made of glass, which is actually emphasized in the film, so the sound doesn’t match the action seen. .

How wrong I was

Featured in the episode “The 7PM Project: October 17, 2024” (2024). I didn’t have the highest expectations for “Smile 2”. It seemed like a concept with one movie and nothing else. This film took what was an above-average horror film in the original and said we were going to improve it in every way. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s still popcorn horror, but it’s high-quality popcorn horror. Jump scares hardly do anything for me these days.

His character, however, was quite well created

This made me jump out of my chair several times. However, I will note this: those seemed to be the loudest jump scares I’ve ever heard in a movie theater. Even if the scare didn’t work, the noise alone could be pretty terrifying. I’m not entirely sure if it was just the volume of my movie or the sound mix. When the main character was introduced and she was a pop star, I was worried that things were going to be tough on her side. Real pop stars haven’t exactly evolved into the most likable people in the last few decades.

He had flaws, but was also very likable and affable

It helped that we got a great performance from Naomi Scott, it has to be said. A good opening scene in a horror film has become a lost art. It is very important to hook your audience from the very beginning and set the bar. Many modern horror films forget that, but not this film. The opening scene was brilliant and really gave the film the right start. For a horror film, this film is quite long at over two hours.

will be a contender for one of the best horror films of 2024

It was an ambitious task to maintain the quality for this long and I kept wondering when it would all fail. However, it never happened and it even stalled at the end, which I really feared it wouldn’t. I never thought I would ever write this, but “Smile 2” is a classic. 9.5/10.
