Divine G, who was not convicted while incarcerated at Sing Sing, finds purpose by performing with other incarcerated men in a theater group in this story about perseverance, humanity, and the transformative power of art. These are actual audition tapes that are used to cast the film.
The score was composed by Bryce Dessner
The group has been criticized for not doing comedy, but their previous play was A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which is a comedy. Late Night with Seth Meyers: Anna Faris/ Colman Domingo/ Jose Medeles (2024).
I enjoyed this movie even if I hadn’t seen it in a theater
This movie is one of those mystery movies where you don’t know what you’re seeing until you get there. There were a few tear-jerking moments, and I found half of the cast to be an impressive cast of real prison theater.
Again, most of the cast were members of the theater group and they actually did a pretty good job considering their only outing was in prison
I almost wanted to walk out when I found out it was Sing Sing, but the movie HAD my attention and kept me in my seat until the end.
