Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role
When Brett Goldstein , Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to play the role on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type,” and auditioned for people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to at least take him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had brought the project, generating interest from other notable actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless. I’ve watched the first two episodes and found them compelling.
I also respect the way it’s presented – he’s not doing something other therapists are supposed to be doing, and that’s pretty clear
Part of the reason is that I found there to be something realistically based about a therapist who needs therapy and wants to get to know his patients in an unexpected way. He hasn’t gotten into the silly situations of other shows like Loot, but it’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching.
The show isn’t for everyone
That said, I enjoy the depth of the characters who don’t seem like caricatures; these are people I want to get to know.
